Might you remember Boyd’s assertion near the beginning of a presentation, where
he would caution that the “worst things you could call him,” were, “an expert” “an analyst” ,,and I forget the third,,
But all very entertaining.
I’ll look those up, as time permits.

I remember “analyst,” because it means you only have half a brain, and “expert,” because it means you think you know everything (i.e., your mind is closed). Don’t recall a third. Anybody?
🙂 I think he combined. “Expert and Analyst” and in true characteristic Boyd fashion,
came up with ” that means, I have half a brain, I know it all, and can’t learn anything ! ”
lol
Boyd spent a lot more time than he wanted to with experts and analysts inside the Beltway. The prologue to Shunryu Suzuki’s classic Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind sums it up well: In the beginner’s mind, there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s there are few.
I have been asked whether this contradicts the idea of developing Fingerspitzengefeuhl.
